Ms Deirdre Morrin RN PSN
Deirdre Morrin R.N., P.S.N., is a Nurse and Nutritional Consultant who overcame
extensive and debilitating Rheumatoid Arthritis nearly 30 years ago using nutrition
when pharmaceutical treatment options proved ineffective and destructive. Her
interest in the body’s ability to heal itself in the correct environment has since been
her passion and is the basis of her presentation. Achieving health and balance at
cellular level for optimal efficiency lies at the core of wellbeing.
2016 - Applications of Redox Biochemistry in Health and Aging - Clinical Advances
Interventions and Implications
The presentation will look at Oxidation as a twin-edged sword - it is essential for
life, but it can also cause damage. Much focus has been placed on the destructive
nature of oxidants however Oxidation is an important signalling pathway and can be
of great benefit to human physiology in the short term so long as the cell is able to
restore that vital homeostatic balance which is one of the cherished secrets of life.
The presentation will focus on addressing the REDOX potential. Illness is expressed
in one of two ways: a predominance of oxidative stress-related symptoms and signs,
or a predominance of inflammatory (reactive) signs and symptoms. Our genetic
blueprints have created a tendency to lean one direction or the other, lack of
sufficient ROS causes protein and cell dysfunction, on the other hand an excess of
ROS also causes cellular damage and dysfunction. Health can be achieved by
addressing imbalances in these areas and then moving the REDOX needle back to
the balance point. This allows the cells to better perform their programmed functions
with increased efficiency, similar to the functionality of normal young cells impacting
a broad range of applications, including accelerated healing, detection and
elimination of damaged tissue, normalized immune response and enhanced
metabolic functionality.
