Ageing and The Alexander Technique - how to get the spring back into your step with the Alexander Technique
A Presentation on The Alexander Technique and Ageing
In this presentation Diana will give an overview of the principles of The Alexander Technique and discuss why it is such a valuable tool in the ageing process.
What is The Alexander Technique?
The Technique is a method of mental and physical re-education taught individually and in small groups, which has the effect of reducing unnecessary tension in all human activity.
“When an investigation comes to be made, it will be found that every single thing that we are doing in the work is really what is being done in nature where the conditions are right, the difference being that we are learning to do it consciously.”
FM Alexander 1869-1955
Benefits
What are the benefits of the Alexander Technique?
Everyone can benefit from the Technique. Through unconsciously acquired habits, most of us become accustomed to unnecessary tension whilst carrying out the activities of daily life. The Technique helps eliminate harmful habits. It is a wonderful tool to aid the ageing process.
What the Alexander Technique teaches:
The technique is concerned with thinking, balance and ease of movement in all activity throughout our daily lives, either at work or at play. From childhood to old age, those who practice it learn how to use themselves to best advantage. It is widely recognized as an effective means of alleviating or preventing back problems and many other disorders.
FMA was a great example of his principles. He continued to teach till five days before he died at the age of 86. Many of the first generation of teachers that he taught also worked till their late eighties. I was very privileged to work with many of them and they provided wonderful role models.
