2017 -Female Sexual Dysfunction
Female Sexual Dysfunction refers to a problem during any phase of the sexual
response cycle that prevents the woman from experiencing satisfaction from sexual
activity. The sexual response cycle has four phases: excitement, plateau, orgasm
and resolution. Sexual response involves a complex interplay of physiology,
emotions, experiences, lifestyle and relationships. Disruption of any response can
affect sexual desire, arousal or satisfaction.
Because Female Sexual Dysfunction can occur at any stage of life and has many
symptoms and causes, the ideal approach to treatment involves a combined plan
focusing on medical and emotional issues. Many issues can be addressed by treating
the underlying physical or psychological problem.
A woman’s sexuality is a complex interplay of physical and emotional responses that
affect the way she thinks and feels about herself. This presentation outlines the
problem of Female Sexual Dysfunction as well as the medical approach to diagnosis
and treatment.
